Invitation to Submit Workshop Proposals

The 15th Annual Virginia School-Age Child Care Association Discover Conference will bring together all afterschool providers from throughout the Commonwealth. The two-day conference will feature interactive workshops especially designed for afterschool program directors, site coordinators, youth workers, instructors, and program staff. Over 200 participants are expected to attend.

You are invited to submit a proposal for one of the 75 minute workshops. It is of particular interest to have presentations that represent learnings that programs have implemented, enhanced, and assessed - all part of the learning/improving cycle.

The submission process is online or via email (use online form as a guide). The deadline for submission is June 20, 2008.

Elements for submission to include:

• Name, agency/organization, contact information for one primary speaker and one secondary speaker (if applicable).
• Working title of workshop (up to 7 words).
• Description of content (up to 35 words).
• One paragraph (maximum) as to why this paper should be selected and in what way(s) would your workshop be interactive?
• Have you presented this workshop before? If so, please be sure to tell us when and where.
• Session style: Theater (chairs only), Classroom (rows of tables with chairs), Interactive (round tables), Action (chairs around perimeter only with central space for activities). Please note also if your session would be considered 'loud'.
• Age specifications: Is your presentation specifically appropriate for all, Elementary, Middle School, or High School?
• Audio visual requirements (some charges may apply).

Considerations for acceptance will primarily relate to significance, innovation, applicability and appeal of topic. Style and scope of presentation, prior presentations, state of residence, and presenting agency may be taken into consideration in the decision process.

Upon acceptance, the primary presenter will be asked to provide a commitment to be available to be scheduled on either Friday, October 24 or Saturday, October 25. Presenters will be notified by August 1 on scheduling specifics.

The VSACCA Discover Conference will feature four 75 minute workshop blocks on Friday and three on Saturday. There will be 5-7 concurrent Sessions for participants to choose from. There will not be pre-session sign-up.

One presenter from each workshop may attend the full conference at a reduced fee of $75. One co-presenter may use the reduced speaker fee as well. Reduced rates are not transferrable. Please do not register at any price until after paper acceptance notices are sent out on June 27, 2008.

Exhibitor showcases will be considered.
